About the event

Join us for the special event of the year... the decade... when legendary pianist Martha Argerich makes her long-awaited Australian debut.

In the galaxy of musical stars on today's stage, some stand out - their individuality and personal charisma making for compelling musicianship and well-deserved fame. And pianist Martha Argerich is one such star. She's a living legend, a musician of insightfulness, abundant energy and matchless skill, and we can't wait to see her onstage at the Sydney Opera House in partnership with Charles Dutoit.

Her performance of Beethoven's spirited Piano Concerto No.1 will be framed by some merry wives: those in Nicolai's Shakespeare-inspired overture and the sassy Miller's Wife of Falla's Three-Cornered Hat. Dutoit has assembled irresistible melodies, thrilling Spanish rhythms and the intoxicating whirlwind of La Valse to show the SSO at its very best in music close to his heart.
